Welcoming Astrolab as a Founding Partner of the Lunar Ledger
November 03, 2025 — We’re proud to share that the Lunar Ledger—our new open-access database designed to make lunar activity more transparent, coordinated, and accountable—has officially launched.
We introduced the Ledger during the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Sydney, where we signed our first Memoranda of Understanding with commercial partners, including Astrolab, a California-based company designing and operating multipurpose lunar rovers. Astrolab’s early partnership reflects what we value most: collaboration grounded in real, imminent exploration.
“At Astrolab we know the value of acting with transparency and inspiring trust,” said Jaret Matthews, Founder and CEO of Astrolab. “We see the potential of the Lunar Ledger to positively influence the growing lunar industry by being a voluntary, collaborative platform through which we can keep everyone informed of activities on the Moon—and stay informed about the work of others.”
A Shared Framework for a Shared Moon
The Lunar Ledger provides a single, shared platform where governments, companies, and researchers can publish and cross-reference mission information. As activity on and around the Moon accelerates, this collective transparency helps reduce risk, improve coordination, and promote responsible operations.
Astrolab’s first commercial rover is set to launch in 2026, giving their team direct insight into the challenges of real-time surface operations. Their early involvement will help us refine the Ledger’s data-sharing practices, workflows, and technical standards so it supports the day-to-day realities of lunar missions—not just the ideals.
Building the Tools for Cooperation
Collaboration is strongest when it’s informed by practical experience. Astrolab’s leadership and openness help ensure the Lunar Ledger evolves into a platform that truly serves the entire lunar community—rovers, landers, and beyond.
We’re grateful for their partnership and excited to continue building the tools that will allow everyone exploring and operating on the Moon to do so with confidence, clarity, and care.
