ispace—Championing Lunar Transparency and Sustainability from the Start

November 03, 2025 — The Open Lunar Foundation launched the Lunar Ledger, a new open-access database of global lunar activities and objects. The Ledger provides a single, shared platform where governments, companies, and researchers can publish and cross-reference mission information — a practical step toward transparency and coordination as activity on and around the Moon increases.

The launch took place during the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Sydney, where Open Lunar signed Memoranda of Understanding with its first commercial partners — including Japan-headquartered ispace, inc. In every emerging frontier, it takes visionaries to light the way. ispace has proven to be one such leader, stepping forward as a founding partner of the Lunar Ledger and setting the tone for responsible lunar enterprise.

From the earliest discovery sessions, ispace intuitively understood the power, and necessity, of transparency on the Moon. Where some saw risk in open data, ispace saw an opportunity: to build trust, unlock partnerships, and ensure that the benefits of lunar activity are accessible and enduring.

Sustainability has always been central to ispace’s philosophy, and their commitment to the Ledger is a natural extension of that ethos. Whether designing lunar landers or defining new industry standards, ispace consistently advocates for practices that balance innovation with stewardship. Their advocacy for transparent coordination mirrors their broader belief that the space community can grow stronger and more resilient through collaboration, not competition alone.

As a founding signatory, ispace has already inspired peers to consider not just how to reach the Moon, but how to operate on its surface in ways that preserve potential for generations. Their proactive engagement with the Ledger’s principles and development process has helped set a high bar for data stewardship, operational clarity, and market inclusivity.

“We will contribute to the pioneering and peaceful development of the cislunar ecosystem by sharing information transparently. Never quit the lunar quest,” said Takeshi Hakamada, CEO, ispace-inc.

We’re honored to work with ispace to make the Lunar Ledger not just a registry, but a rallying point for the kind of responsible lunar exploration the world hopes to see. With partners like ispace, a sustainable, cooperative Moon is within reach.
